What is the Heart Institute of the Caribbean?

The Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC) is the premier center of excellence for cardiovascular care in the English-Speaking Caribbean. In 2018 HIC opened the HIC Heart Hospital, which is the first and only dedicated full-service Specialty Heart Hospital in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. HIC provides comprehensive and sophisticated diagnosis and management of all forms of heart diseases and has multiple locations and several heart stations situated across Jamaica to improve access to care to all Jamaicans. HIC provides expert diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular care and con- sultative opinion locally and remotely via a network of specialists around the world linked by a global tele-medical network.

Where is the Heart Institute of the Caribbean located?

  1. The Heart Institute of the Caribbean and the HIC Heart Hospital are both located at 23 Balmoral Avenue, Kingston.

How many branches of Heart Institute of the Caribbean are they?

There are four Heart Institute branches in the island namely Kingston, Ocho Rios (St. Ann), Mandeville and a Spanish Town Heart Station in St. Catherine.

What procedures are done at the Heart Institute facility?

Here is a list of procedures we provide at HIC:

Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG), Echocardiograms, 24-hour Holter monitoring, 24 ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, exercise stress test, exercise stress echocardiogram, dobutamine stress echocardiogram, exercise nuclear cardiac scans, dobutamine nuclear scans, angiograms, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation and interrogation, ICD implants, TEE (transoesophageal echocardiogram), vascular profiles, bubble studies etc.

Do you accept walk-in patients?

YES we accept Walk-ins. To reduce your wait time, we recommend making an appointment with customer care or online.

How do I make an appointment?

Option 1. To make an appointment you can call our customer care at 876-906-2105-8 and select option 2 to schedule and appointment.

Option 3. You can walk into any of our branches to schedule an appointment.

How soon will I receive my test results?

Medical Reports are usually available for pick-up or can be sent via email 48 hours after testing .

Will my test results be sent directly to my referring physician?

The report will be sent to the physician if an email address is provided on the referral form.

Can my test results be faxed or emailed?

Unfortunately, we do not send test results via fax but we can send reports via email if requested.

Can someone collect my test results on my behalf?

Yes, someone can collect your results on your behalf but they must produce a valid ID and consent letter from the patient upon collecting the results.

How can I find out the cost of HIC services?

The cost of our services may be sought by calling our billing department at 876-906-2105-8 and selecting option 4. You can also call our Customer Care at 876-906 2105 or visit our branches for prices.

Does the Heart Institute of the Caribbean accept health insurance?

Yes, we currently accept most insurance companies, please confirm when making your appointment your insurance carrier.

Does the Heart Institute accept debit and credit cards?

Yes, we accept local and international debit and credit cards.

Do you have adult cardiologists and what are their schedules?

Yes, we have a qualified team of cardiologists. You can contact 876-906-2105-8 to find out the consultation hours and to schedule an appointment.

Does the Heart Institute offer paediatric cardiology?

Yes, paediatric consultations and echocardiograms are done on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

What is the HIC Cares Membership Programme?

The HIC Cares Membership Programme offers an annual qualitative healthcare programme from the day you enroll for full 12 months of benefits suited to your healthcare needs. With the membership, we provide unlimited heart consultations with our doctors, with or without insurance., as well as further discounts on diagnostic testing.

Where can I sign up for the HIC Cares Membership?

HIC Cares Membership is available online at https://caribbeanheart.com/hic-cares-membership/.

You can visit any of our branches, complete the membership form and pay the fee. Membership will be effective immediately and you will receive an HIC Cares Membership card.

Does my membership cover HIC Heart Hospital services or charges?

The Membership packages that include some HIC Heart Hospital Services are:

HIC Cares + ( Plus)

HIC Cares Executive – Cash

HIC Cares Executive – Insurance

HIC Cares Stanadard Membership does not include HIC Heart Hospital services.

Does the Heart Institute of the Caribbean have a pharmacy on-site?

Xtra Care Pharmacy is on site ( Second floor) of the facility, where you can receive all your required medication.

Is there a diagnostic lab on-site?

Yes, we have a Biomedical Lab at our Kingston branch.

When can I come the Emergency Centre?

If you are experiencing chest pains or any discomfort you suspect might be cardiac-related, you can visit our 24hour chest pain emergency centre at any time.

Do you provide ambulance services to the public?

Yes, we provide ambulance services to the public. Please contact the HIC billing department for costs and additional details

Can a patient from another hospital do testing at the HIC?

Yes, patients from other medical institutions re welcome to have their testing done at HIC.

What are the hospital visiting hours?

Visiting hours by the hospital are as follows:

Mondays- Fridays 10:00am-12:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm

Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holiday 10:00 am- 12:00pm, 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm.
